James Woodward
James Woodward was born in Durham in 1961. He was educated at Spennymoor Grammar School, and then at King’s College London, where he read Theology. After a year working at St Christopher’s Hospice in London, he trained for ministry in the Anglican Church at Westcott House, Cambridge.
Ordained in 1985, he has worked as a curate, a bishop’s chaplain, a hospital chaplain and, from 1996 to 2009, in parochial ministry in the Diocese of Birmingham. In his last post he led the Church into renewal and growth. He is passionate about learning and has taught and supervised in a number of universities, but especially with health and social care students in the Open University.
From 1998 to 2009 he was the Master of the Foundation of Lady Katherine Leveson, Temple Balsall, Vicar of St Mary’s Church and the Director of the Leveson Centre for the Study of Ageing, Spirituality and Social Policy. During these years he has become concerned to empower groups and individuals to reflect and act upon the way we think about and respond to age and ageing. In April 2009 he was installed as Canon of St George’s Chapel, Windsor.
At present he is researching into theological reflection. He has published five books with SPCK and he is working on a series of books that will enable parishes to think about each of the lectionary Gospels. For more information about his work and writing see his own web page at http://www.jameswoodward.info/. He is also mildly addicted to blogging – see http://jameswoodward.wordpress.com/
