This book is published in the year of SPCK’s tercentenary, and shows the worldwide reach of the Society’s activities in Christian literature. A large number of the prayers have been written by students or staff of the colleges supported by SPCK’s programmes. All the prayers have been written during the 20th century and the vast majority of them over the last twenty years. The prayers represent a wide spectrum of Christian traditions, Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, Methodist, Reformed and Evangelical. The themes range over the experiences of life, work and rest, grief and joy, poverty and plenty, churches and nations – they all find their place in this tapestry of prayer.
